As a spoken word artist,
Ayo mixes her love of language, music and movement into a thrilling
performance. She has won poetry contests throughout California, and won the
opportunity to perform for Dr. Sonia Sanchez at the nationally known Marcus
Garvey Bookstore in Oakland, CA.
She has taught poetry workshops at the Afro-American Museum in Los Angeles, and
through Poets-in-the-Schools in Oakland and Sacramento, CA; in collaboration
with Ms. Tureeda Mikell and Ms. Be Herrera, respectively. She also
taught poetry and dance in San Francisco through the Performing Arts Workshop,
Fort Mason Center (1999).
She is a versatile dancer, who can and has done solo African dance
performances. Her performances are electrifying, capturing the energy and
passion of African dance.
In churches, Ayo presents authentic African praise dances from West
Africa to the honor and glory of God; she is beautifully attired in traditional
grande bubu and lace for church performances. Ayo has also taught these dances
to church youth groups at Bethel A. M. E. Church, Christ Unity Church, and St.
Odelia's Catholic Church in Los Angeles, and in churches in Oakland, CA.
